Engeland, 1932. Het is de trouwdag van Dolly Thatcham (Felicity Jones). Wanneer Dolly's minnaar van de vorige zomer Joseph (Luke Treadaway) verschijnt veranderen haar gevoelens plots. Dolly's moeder staat echter niet toe dat de zorgvuldig geplande toekomst van haar dochter wordt bedreigd. Nu de tijd dringt, kan Dolly maar niet beslissen of ze weg zal lopen met Joseph, of een nieuw leven zal beginnen in Argentinië met haar aanstaande man.
